Tidepool Tally

Status: Failed.

  1. Your muse

Build Tidepool Tally, a small one-page counter for a made-up beach club. Three invented species of tidepool creatures, a plus and minus button for each, saved counts, and a reset button. Also make it a browser extension that opens the counter in a popup, and let people install it on a phone and a desktop. Made-up data only. Keep it small and simple.

  2. From the owner: Stop the run.

    Delivered

  3. Done. Milestone 1 (R1 to R4) is complete and npm run verify exits 0: typecheck, build, start, console, smoke (10 tests), caps (extension), requirements (4 of 4), and manifest all passed on the last run.

  5. The plan: Tidepool Tally

A tiny counter for three invented tidepool creatures.

    Can build part of it

    1. Open Tidepool Tally and see three invented tidepool species on one page, each starting at...
    2. Tap the plus button for a species to raise its count by one
    3. Tap the minus button for a species to lower its count by one, never below zero

Won't do: Counts are saved in this browser only

    Who it's for

Members of a made up beach club who want a simple way to tally tidepool sightings.

    How it works

    1. Open Tidepool Tally and see three invented tidepool species on one page, each starting at zero.
    2. Tap the plus button for a species to raise its count by one.
    3. Tap the minus button for a species to lower its count by one, never below zero.
    4. See the updated count and the total right away, with the count saved in the browser.
    5. Leave and come back or reload the page and see the same counts still there.
    6. Tap Reset to set all three counts back to zero.
    7. Open the counter from the browser extension popup, or install the web page on a phone or desktop, and use the same simple counter.

    Screens

    • Counter. The one page counter with three invented species, each with plus and minus buttons and a count, a total, a reset button and a link to install help.
    • Install help. Short steps to install the web page on a phone and a desktop and to load the browser extension in Chrome, Edge or Brave.

    What goes in

    • Text (optional): No user typed input is needed for the counter. A short built in prompt asks the model to invent the three species once.
    • Audio: Button taps only. Plus and minus taps for each species and a reset tap. No files, photos or recordings are uploaded.

    What comes out

    • Text: A one page counter showing three invented species, each with a count, plus and minus buttons, a total and a reset button.
    • Text: The same counter in a browser extension popup, plus short install help for phone, desktop and the extension.

    Models

    ModelUsed forWhy
Muse WonderneededInvents three tidepool species names and short descriptions so all data is made up and no real species or copied content is used.

    Limits

    • Counts are saved in this browser only. They are still there after a reload on the same browser, but they do not follow a person to another phone or computer.
    • Counts never go below zero. Tapping minus at zero leaves the count at zero.
    • The species are invented. Their names, descriptions and counts are made up and are not records of real animals or a real beach club.
    • The browser extension installs with Load unpacked in Chrome, Edge or Brave on a computer. It is not in any extension store and browser extensions do not run on most phones, so phone users use the installable web page instead.
    • The web page can be added to the home screen or installed from the browser on many phones and desktops. The exact install button depends on the browser the person uses.
    • Can't do: Install the browser extension itself on a phone.. Browser extensions cannot be installed on most phones, so the closest thing the product will do is let phone users install the web page on their home screen.

    From your inspo

The person gave a text note only. They want Tidepool Tally, a small one page counter for a made up beach club with three invented species, plus and minus buttons, saved counts, a reset button, a browser extension popup and install on phone and desktop.

    Takes

    • A one page counter for a made up beach club
    • Three invented tidepool species, each counted separately
    • Plus and minus buttons per species, saved counts and a reset button
    • A browser extension popup version of the same counter
    • Small and simple scope with made up data only

Cost per run: about $0.01 (est.). Species invention uses about 200 input tokens at $4 per million, about $0.0008, and about 300 output tokens at $20 per million, about $0.006. Total about $0.01, rounded up. Later plus, minus and reset taps use no model call.

What you asked for 0 of 15 checked and working

    • R1: Show a small one page counter for a made up beach club, named Tidepool Tally, with everything the counter needs on that one page. Not checked yet Its test passed. The judge hasn't looked yet.
    • R2: Show three invented species of tidepool creatures, each with an invented name and a short made up description, made by the model once and then kept the same. Not checked yet Its test passed. The judge hasn't looked yet.
    • R3: Give each species its own plus button and minus button. Plus adds one, minus takes one away without going below zero, and the new count shows right away and is still there after a reload. Not checked yet Its test passed. The judge hasn't looked yet.
    • R4: Save the counts in the browser as they change, so the counts are still there after a reload on the same browser. Not checked yet Its test passed. The judge hasn't looked yet.
    • Not metR5: Add a reset button that sets all three counts to zero after the person confirms, and the cleared counts are still there after a reload. Not met No test ran for it.
    • Not metR6: Provide a browser extension that opens the same counter in a popup, with the three species, plus and minus buttons, saved counts and reset. Counts in the popup are saved in the extension storage on that browser. Not met No test ran for it.
    • Not metR7: Let people install the web page on a phone and on a desktop from their browser, for example by adding it to the home screen, and show short install steps for each. The extension itself installs only on desktop Chrome, Edge or Brave. Not met No test ran for it.
    • R8: Install the browser extension itself on a phone. Can't be done Browser extensions cannot be installed on most phones, so the closest thing the product will do is let phone users install the web page on their home screen.
    • Not metR9: Use made up data only. Species names, descriptions and starting counts are invented, with no real beach club, real species counts or real people. Not met No test ran for it.
    • Not metR10: Keep the product small and simple. One counter page, one install help section and one extension popup, with no accounts, feeds or extra tools. Not met No test ran for it.
    • Not metR11: Show an empty state before any counting. All three species show a count of zero, a total of zero and a short line saying to tap plus when a creature is spotted. Not met No test ran for it.
    • Not metR12: Show an error state when the invented species cannot be loaded. Show three preset made up species instead so the counter still works, with a retry button. Not met No test ran for it.
    • Not metR13: Put clear install help on the counter page. One section covers phone and desktop web install, and one covers loading the extension unpacked in Chrome, Edge or Brave. Not met No test ran for it.
    • Not metR14: Make the page and popup easy to tap on a phone. Buttons are large, counts are easy to read and nothing needs typing. Not met No test ran for it.
    • Not metR15: Let the person move between the screens with clear navigation: an Install help link on the Counter screen opens the Install help screen, and a Back to counter link on the Install help screen returns to the Counter screen, with the saved counts unchanged after moving between screens. Not met No test ran for it.
    • Not metR16: Let the person delete what was saved: a Delete saved counts option, separate from everyday counting, asks for confirmation and then deletes the saved counts from browser storage, and in the extension popup from extension storage, so all counts show zero and stay at zero after a reload. Not met No test ran for it.
