    Who it's for

A person who wants a playful made up tidepool counting toy on the web, on their phone or desktop, and in their browser toolbar.

    How it works

    1. Open Tidepool Tally and see the one small round badge, the made up beach club title, and three invented species.
    2. See Glimmering Pebble Crab, Violet Ribbon Anemone, and Sunny Cup Coral, each starting at zero or at its saved count.
    3. Tap plus to add one to a species count or minus to take one away, never below zero.
    4. See that count update at once and get saved in the browser.
    5. Tap Reset, confirm, and see all three counts return to zero.
    6. Leave and come back, or reload, and see the saved counts still there.
    7. Open the install section to add the web version to a desktop or phone, or load the extension popup with the same counter.

    Screens

    • Tidepool Counter. Shows the round badge, the made up beach club title, three invented species with counts, plus and minus buttons for each, and the reset button.
    • Install and Downloads. Explains how to add the web version to a desktop or phone and how to load the browser extension, with the extension download offered there.
    • Extension Popup. Shows the same three species counter with plus, minus, saved counts, and reset in a small browser extension popup.

    What goes in

    • Text (optional): No typed text is needed for counting. The only input is taps or clicks on buttons.
    • Image (optional): No user image is needed. The one small round badge is made by the product.

    What comes out

    • Text: Three invented species names, each with its current count, shown on the page and in the popup.
    • Image: One small round tidepool badge made with Muse Image, shown at the top of the counter.

Muse ImageimageMakes the one small round tidepool badge used on the counter page and in the extension popup. The counting itself needs no model call.

    Limits

    • Counts are saved only in this browser. They do not follow the person to another device or browser.
    • The web page counts and the extension popup counts are saved in separate browser storage, so the totals can differ between the two places. Both show the same three species and the same controls.
    • There are no native desktop or phone app downloads. The closest thing is an installable web version that can be added to a home screen or desktop from the browser.
    • The extension installs with Load unpacked in Chrome, Edge or Brave from the product page. It is not in any extension store.
    • All species, the beach club, and all counts are made up. No real beach, animal, or club data is used.
    • Counts never go below zero. Tapping minus at zero leaves the count at zero.
    • Can't do: Desktop and phone downloads are offered as native app downloads.. Native desktop and phone app downloads cannot be built here, so the product offers an installable web version for desktop and phone instead.

    • R12: Before any counting, the empty state shows all three species at zero with a short line inviting the person to tap plus for their first sighting. Not checked yet
    • R13: If saving in the browser fails, the page shows a plain error note, keeps the counts visible on screen, and offers a Try again button. Not checked yet
    • R14: The counter page and the install section are reached from one page with clear links, and the page works at phone width with large tap targets. Not checked yet
    • R15: Navigation between screens: the Tidepool Counter screen has a clearly labelled Install and Downloads link that moves the person to the Install and Downloads screen, that screen has a Back to counter link that returns to the Tidepool Counter screen, and both links are visible without scrolling on phone and desktop. The Extension Popup is opened from the browser toolbar button after install, and its Install help link opens the Install and Downloads screen. Not checked yet
    • R16: Deleting what was saved: on the Tidepool Counter screen and in the Extension Popup, a Delete saved counts button asks for confirmation, then deletes the saved counts from browser storage, removes the saved tally so no old counts remain, and shows all three species at zero. After a reload the deleted counts do not come back and the zero counts are still there after a reload. Not checked yet
